In a shocking Delhi shooting incident, a 57-year-old businessman was killed after being allegedly shot by two bike-borne assailants in the Farsh Bazar area of Shahdara district on Saturday morning.
The victim, Sunil Jain, a resident of Krishna Nagar, was returning home on his scooter with a friend after a morning walk at the Yamuna Sports Complex when the attack occurred. Police reports indicate that the assailants fired seven to eight rounds.
Jain, who ran a utensils business, had no known enmity or disputes, according to his family. Friends accompanying Jain during his walks revealed that the attackers initially pretended to alert him about a dropped phone.
They then asked his name before one of them got off the bike and opened fire. Despite Jain’s pleas, the attackers did not spare him. The assailants, who were masked, fled the scene and are currently on the run.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) stated that a crime team has inspected the spot, and investigations are ongoing.
In another violent case, a dispute over the use of a shared toilet turned deadly in Delhi’s Govindpuri on Friday night. The accused, Bikham Singh, attacked neighbours with a kitchen knife, leaving three people injured.
One of the victims, identified as Sudheer, succumbed to his injuries, while Prem (22) and Sagar (20) are undergoing treatment.
Reacting to these incidents, AAP leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal accused the BJP-led central government of failing to maintain law and order in Delhi.
"Under BJP rule, criminals have become fearless," Kejriwal wrote on X (formerly Twitter), referencing the Delhi firing case and the Govindpuri stabbing. He further alleged that the BJP is incapable of managing the city’s safety, blaming the deteriorating situation on the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, which oversees Delhi Police.
These incidents have fueled criticism against the Centre ahead of the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, with the AAP accusing it of neglecting the capital's security concerns.
