The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has detained the ninth accused in the deadly Delhi car blast case. The accused played an active role in the conspiracy and had taken an oath to carry out what the agency described as “self-sacrificial operations”.

The arrested accused has been identified as Yasir Ahmad Dar, a resident of Shopian district in Jammu and Kashmir. He was arrested from New Delhi, the NIA said on Thursday.

Yasir was taken into custody under relevant provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, in case RC-21/2025/NIA/DLI.

According to the NIA, investigations have revealed Yasir’s active involvement in the conspiracy behind the car bomb blast that shook the national capital on November 10. The agency said he had sworn allegiance and taken an oath to carry out self-sacrificial acts.

The anti-terror agency said further investigations showed that Yasir was in close contact with other accused in the case, including Umar Un Nabi, the deceased bomber, and Mufti Irfan.

Yasir is among the main conspirators behind the terrorist attack that killed 15 people and injured several others. The attack took place on November 10 when a moving car exploded near the Red Fort area in Delhi.

Yasir was produced before a special court on Thursday. The court remanded him to NIA custody till December 26.

Principal District and Sessions Judge (Special NIA Judge) Anju Bajaj Chandana passed the remand order after hearing arguments from the NIA’s counsel. The hearing was conducted in a closed chamber.

So far, the NIA has arrested nine accused in the case. These accused are alleged to have facilitated the suicide bomber Umar Un Nabi, who blew himself up in a moving Hyundai i20 car around 7 pm on November 10.

Earlier this month, the NIA arrested the eighth accused, Dr Bilal Naseer Malla, a resident of Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir. He was accused of sheltering the deceased bomber and providing logistical support. He was arrested from Delhi.

The seventh accused, Soyab of Dhauj in Faridabad district of Haryana, was arrested on November 25. The NIA said he had sheltered Umar Un Nabi shortly before the attack and provided logistical help for his movements.

On November 20, the NIA arrested Shaheen Saeed along with Dr Muzammil Shakeel Ganai of Pulwama, Dr Adeel Ahmed Rather of Anantnag, and Mufti Irfan Ahmad Wagay of Shopian. They were taken into custody in Srinagar on production warrants issued by the Patiala House Court.

Earlier, the agency had arrested Amir Rashid Ali, in whose name the car used in the blast was registered. It also arrested Jasir Bilal Wani alias Danish, who allegedly provided technical assistance to the terrorists.

Last month, Shaheen Saeed was taken to Faridabad to recreate the terror plot. This followed the seizure of nearly 2,900 kg of explosives in Faridabad shortly before the blast. The car used in the explosion was also traced to a local dealer in the area.

The NIA said that information gathered from the arrested accused has helped strengthen its understanding of the operational network behind the attack.
The agency said it is continuing to follow multiple leads and conduct searches across several states with the help of local police to identify more suspects linked to the conspiracy.

Officials said efforts are ongoing to fully uncover and dismantle the terror network responsible for planning and executing the attack.
The NIA said it has so far confronted all seven previously arrested accused during the investigation.

The probe was handed over to the NIA by the Union Home Ministry soon after the attack. The agency is working closely with police forces of various states to track down all members of the terrorist module involved.

On December 1, the NIA conducted searches at eight locations in Jammu and Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh. The agency said it recovered digital devices and other incriminating material during these searches.

Earlier, on November 26 and 27, the NIA carried out extensive searches on the premises of prime accused Dr Muzammil Shakeel Ganai and Dr Shaheen Saeed at Al Falah University and other locations in Faridabad. A large quantity of cash, foreign currency, gold, and other materials were seized. Investigators said these seized items are being carefully examined to uncover the full conspiracy behind the bombing.

The NIA also revealed that accused Amir had travelled to Delhi to help purchase the car that was later used as a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (IED).

The agency has forensically confirmed the identity of the deceased bomber as Umar, a resident of Pulwama district. Umar was working as an Assistant Professor in the General Medicine Department at Al Falah University in Faridabad.

In addition, the NIA has seized another vehicle belonging to Umar. The vehicle is being examined for further evidence in the case. So far, the agency has examined 73 witnesses, including those injured in the blast that rocked the national capital.

Working closely with Delhi Police, Jammu and Kashmir Police, Haryana Police, Uttar Pradesh Police, and other agencies, the NIA continues its investigation across multiple states.
