Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has resumed her official duties for the first time since the attack on her a few days ago. Her first official engagement was attending an event named 'Vastrika' in Gandhi Nagar, which is a major garment hub in New Delhi.
CM Gupta vowed to persist in the fight for the city’s rights, telling supporters, "I assure you that your Chief Minister Didi will not be afraid, will not get tired, will not lose. Till Delhi gets its rights, she will keep fighting with you. It is my vow to continuously fight for you..."
On Friday, a man was detained after he shouted slogans at a public event where Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta was speaking in Gandhi Nagar. According to police, security personnel quickly escorted him out of the venue.
This incident marks Gupta's first public appearance since an alleged attack on her two days earlier. On Wednesday, a 41-year-old man reportedly attacked her at her Civil Lines Camp Office residence during a 'Jan Sunwai' (public hearing) programme.
The attack on Chief Minister Gupta occurred on Wednesday, during a 'Jan Sunvai' (public hearing) session at her camp office. The accused, identified as Rajeshbhai Khimji, a 41-year-old man from Rajkot, was arrested. A case has been registered against him on various charges, including attempted murder. Following the incident, Gupta had remained at her official residence in Civil Lines.
According to officials, the Chief Minister is also likely to return to her office at the Delhi Secretariat. On Thursday, Delhi CM Rekha Gupta made a public statement asserting that her 'Jan Sunvai' programme would continue to be held in every assembly constituency and would not be limited to her residence.
"Despite all these unexpected blows, I will never abandon Delhi," she said, referring to the attack. She also added that women have double the strength to overcome difficulties and must endure countless tests to prove themselves. "I am ready too," she stated.
