Delhi Police are investigating a potential Khalistani connection to the explosion near a CRPF school in Rohini on Sunday, following a threatening social media post.
The blast, suspected to have been caused by an IED, has sparked a multi-agency investigation.
The explosion, which occurred between 7:35 and 7:40 am, tore through a wall of the CRPF school but fortunately did not cause any injuries. Nearby shops and cars, however, were damaged.
Authorities believe the attack was intended as a warning, rather than a direct strike on individuals.
A senior police officer said, “We are probing a possible Khalistani link in the blast. The nature of the explosion and the subsequent social media post suggest it was a message directed towards the authorities.”
Following the blast, a message circulated on social media claimed the explosion was in retaliation to the alleged targeting of pro-Khalistan separatists by Indian agencies.
The message, purportedly posted by a group calling itself Justice League India, included a video clip of the explosion with the phrase "Khalistan Zindabad" displayed at the bottom.
The post read: "If Indian coward agency and their master think they can hire filthy goons to target our members to silence our voice, then they live in a fool's world.
They can't imagine how close we are to them and how capable we are to strike anytime." The post concluded with hashtags including #KhalistanZindabad and #JLI.
The bomb, an IED possibly controlled remotely or by a timer, was likely placed late Saturday night. It lacked deadly shrapnel, indicating the attackers may not have intended mass casualties but rather aimed to send a symbolic message.
A coordinated response from multiple agencies was launched shortly after the blast. Teams from the National Investigation Agency (NIA), National Security Guard (NSG), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and Delhi Police arrived on the scene and cordoned off the area. Samples were collected for further forensic analysis, and authorities began their search for the perpetrators.
An officer involved in the investigation remarked, “The perpetrator seems to have intentionally selected a location where the blast would not result in loss of life but would make a clear statement.”
This incident comes on the heels of several bomb threats received at airports across India over the past week, all of which were later deemed hoaxes.
The investigation into the Rohini explosion remains ongoing, with officials working to verify any links to pro-Khalistan elements and to assess the security risks posed by this latest development.
