In a step towards upgrading the existing fleet, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday announced that the Delhi government will roll out 300 new air-conditioned electric buses on July 4, saying the government is fully committed to environment protection and developing a world-class public transport system in the national capital.

Pertinently, Delhi’s electric bus (e-bus) initiative is a major effort to fight air pollution , modernize public transit , and transition the capital to a zero-emission transport network . The city operates thousands of electric buses, consistently expanding its fleet to replace older, polluting CNG vehicles.

The initiative under which Delhi's public transport is set for a major upgrade was launched last year with  announcement of 5,000 new electric buses as part of a ₹12,952 crore budget. It aims to enhance travel convenience while prioritising environmental sustainability. With improved infrastructure and smart initiatives like free travel for women, a greener, more efficient Delhi is on the horizon.

She also announced that a massive mega-plantation drive to plant 70 lakh saplings across the city will be launched on July 7.The chief minister, who attended three separate 'Viksit Bharat Sankalp Sammelan' events, said her government is dedicated to realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of a developed India. The events were held to commemorate 12 years of "service, good governance, development, and public welfare" under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, said the Delhi CMO in a statement.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister stated that under the prime minister's leadership, India has achieved unprecedented and historic milestones in development and citizen-centric welfare schemes. Referring to the drive for rejuvenation and cleanliness of the Yamuna, Gupta said that the government is working on a scientific and long-term solution.

All major drains emptying into the Yamuna are being tapped in a phased manner, and new sewage treatment plants (STPs) are being set up, she said.Furthermore, a special financial assistance package of Rs 2,800 crore has been provided to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to completely overhaul Delhi's sanitation system. Mechanized road-sweeping machines are being continuously increased, she said.
