Relentless rainfall lashed Gurugram through Wednesday evening, swamping roads, choking traffic, and prompting the district administration to issue an Orange Alert on Thursday. Authorities recorded an alarming 133 mm of rainfall over 12 hours, of which 103 mm fell during an intense 90-minute spell.
The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) urged all corporate offices and private institutions in Gurugram to facilitate work-from-home arrangements on Thursday to minimise congestion and ensure public safety.
“Please stay alert, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow official updates,” the DDMA said in a public advisory, adding that the rainfall from 7 PM on July 9 to 7 AM on July 10 had crossed critical thresholds.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) echoed the alert with its Orange warning, suggesting the potential for further disruption. Areas such as Vatika Chowk and MG Road witnessed severe waterlogging, with reports of stranded vehicles and submerged streets.
Meanwhile, the downpour extended its reach into neighbouring Delhi, where parts of the capital bore the brunt of waterlogging. Notably, Panchkuian Marg and Dhaula Kuan were among the worst affected.
The opposition Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) seized the opportunity to criticise the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of monumental failure in pre-monsoon preparedness.

“This is Lutyens’ Delhi. Just an hour of rain, and this is the state of the road near the official residence of PWD, Irrigation and Flood Control Minister Parvesh Verma,” said AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj on X (formerly Twitter), sharing images of flooded roads.
Bharadwaj further accused the BJP of betraying public trust, stating: “BJP’s Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, PWD Minister Parvesh Verma, and other ministers made tall claims that Delhi won’t drown this year... If everything was in place, then why did Delhi flood after just one hour of rain?”
Leader of the Opposition in the MCD House, Anurag Narang, also shared visuals of waterlogged neighbourhoods and mocked the administration’s monsoon assurances. “Despite having a four-engine BJP government, Delhi has turned into a city of water. Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh said Delhiites will enjoy the monsoon this time. Well, waterlogging has turned the city into a swimming pool. Mayor sahab, now you too should come — let's swim together,” he quipped on social media.
