In yet another crime incident with horrifying details of the motive,a man in Delhi killed his wife and mother -in-law over what is being seen a trivial matter turning into dispute. The crime took place amid family birthday celebration in northwest Delhi which spiralled into horror after the man allegedly killed duo  with a pair of scissors following an argument over gifts exchanged between the two sides.

The accused, Yogesh Sehgal, was arrested on Sunday in Rohini, where he was found roaming with his two sons after the brutal killings. A double murder in Delhi’s Rohini has shocked the city after a man allegedly killed his wife and mother-in-law with a pair of scissors following a domestic dispute.

Police said the accused, identified as Yogesh Sehgal, was arrested after allegedly murdering his wife Priya Sehgal, 34, and mother-in-law Kusum Sinha, 63, inside their home. The incident took place after a quarrel over the gifts exchanged during the birthday celebration of Priya and Yogesh’s son, Chirag, on August 28.

According to investigators, Kusum,63,  had stayed back at her daughter’s residence to help resolve the argument between the couple. On August 30, when Kusum’s son Megh Sinha was unable to reach her over phone, he went to the flat and found it locked from outside with blood stains visible near the door. On breaking the lock, he discovered the bodies of his mother and sister lying in a pool of blood. Besides Police, forensic experts and crime teams were immediately summoned to the scene.

The call came from Megh Sinha, Kusum’s son, who said his mother had gone to Priya’s house on August 28 to attend the birthday party of her grandson, Chirag. “A dispute erupted between Priya and her unemployed husband, Yogesh, over gifts exchanged between the families. My mother stayed back to help resolve the issue,” said a senior police officer as saying. Police said Yogesh allegedly stabbed Priya in the neck with scissors late Saturday night after she made a remark about his family not bringing gifts. He then attacked his mother-in-law when she intervened. The couple had been married for 17 years and were known to quarrel frequently.

“After committing the crime, Yogesh tried to clean up the blood, locked the door, and waited for his sons to return from school,” investigators said. When the boys came home, he allegedly confessed to the killings and attempted to flee with them. Police apprehended him before he could escape. In disbelief and trauma, relatives described the killings as incomprehensible. “Everybody has fights in a marriage. But who kills their wife and mother-in-law like this? It is so inhuman,” Priya’s brother Himalaya said. According to Rajeev Ranjan, DCP (Rohini), the motive was rooted in “domestic disputes and frequent quarrels.”
