Delhi Police Sub-Inspector allegedly died by suicide after shooting himself with his service revolver at Madhu Vihar Police Station in East Delhi on Monday.
The deceased was identified as 2019-batch Sub-Inspector Somesh Meena, the police said.According to preliminary information, the incident took place around 12.15 pm when he allegedly shot himself with his service weapon inside the Madhu Vihar Police Station.Senior police officers, the crime team and forensic teams reached the spot and began an investigation. Police said the circumstances that led to the alleged suicide are being ascertained.
According to police, the incident came to light at around 12.20 pm, when he allegedly shot himself in the head with his service pistol inside a room.He was found with a gunshot injury. Senior officers, along with forensic experts, reached the spot to initiate an investigation.Police said that earlier in the day, Somesh had met the Station House Officer (SHO) and informed him that he was leaving for court duty. However, he never reached the court.
The body was taken for a postmortem examination, while police are investigating the circumstances that led to the incident. "His wife claimed that he was suffering from some kind of depression," a police officer said. Police said they are examining all aspects of the case, though no foul play has been suspected so far. He had joined the Delhi Police in 2019 and lived with his wife in Siddharth Nagar, Uttar Pradesh.
While no suicide note was recovered at the scene, initial reports and statements from family members suggested he may have been struggling with depression. The body was moved to a local hospital for a post-mortem examination as authorities continue to look into the circumstances surrounding the event. Police officials however said the incident is under investigation. Senior officers, along with crime scene and forensic teams, reached the spot and are examining the circumstances surrounding the death of the cop on duty.
