Delhi Schools Go Online, Colleges Postpone Exams Amid CJP Protest

Several schools and colleges in Delhi have moved classes online, cancelled or rescheduled campus activities and deferred examinations scheduled for October 10 following security concerns linked to a proposed protest at Jantar Mantar and possible disruption to metro services.

Sardar Patel Vidyalaya has told parents that students from Classes 6 to 12 will attend classes online on Saturday. The school cited extensive barricading in the New Delhi area and concerns about students’ safety.

The institution has also withdrawn its stay-back facility for Friday. The inauguration of Activity Week, planned for Saturday, has been postponed, and a new date will be announced later.

Raghubir Singh Junior Modern School has deferred its parent-teacher meeting, which was scheduled for Saturday to discuss students’ report cards. Parents will be informed about the revised schedule in due course.

At Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Mehta Vidyalaya on Kasturba Gandhi Marg, sports day practice and enrichment classes for students of Classes 9 to 12 scheduled for Saturday have been cancelled. The school cited the proposed Jantar Mantar protest and the need to ensure student safety.

Colleges have also altered their academic schedules. Bharati Vidyapeeth’s College of Engineering in Paschim Vihar has shifted its mid-term examinations scheduled for Saturday to Monday. The examination timings will remain unchanged.

The college said the decision followed directions from the dean of the University School of Information, Communication and Technology (USICT), Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU), and the Joint Commissioner of Police, Transport Range, Delhi. It also cited the expected closure of entry and exit gates at several metro stations and the possibility of service disruptions.

Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology in Rohini has postponed its Saturday mid-term examinations to October 12 after receiving communication from the Delhi Police about anticipated restrictions on metro services.

The revised schedule was approved by the dean of USICT, GGSIPU, and the BTech Programme Coordination Committee. Department heads have been instructed to communicate the changes to faculty members and students.

The Delhi Police had asked the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to close entry and exit gates at 57 metro stations from 9 pm on Friday until further notice. The request was made in view of the proposed protest at Jantar Mantar and the possibility of unruly movement towards sensitive locations.
