Delhi to start electoral roll revision next month

Delhi will begin a special summary revision of electoral rolls through house-to-house verification next month ahead of the 2025 Assembly polls, updating voter details and ensuring accuracy for eligible voters.

News Arena Network - New Delhi - UPDATED: September 7, 2024, 03:58 PM - 2 min read

The polls for the 70-member assembly in Delhi are due in February 2025.

The formal process for the Delhi Assembly elections, scheduled for February 2025, will commence next month with a special summary revision of the electoral rolls, officials announced. The revision will involve a comprehensive house-to-house verification campaign across Delhi.

Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit homes to verify voter details and assist with the completion of necessary forms, according to the Chief Electoral Officer's office in Delhi. The Election Commission of India has instructed that the electoral roll for the National Capital Territory be updated with reference to January 1, 2025, as the qualifying date.

The integrated electoral roll will be published on October 29, with claims and objections accepted until November 28. These will be addressed by December 24, and the final electoral roll will be published on January 6, 2025.

The Chief Electoral Officer's office has urged Delhi residents to participate in the revision process. While possessing an Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) is necessary, it is not sufficient for voting without being listed on the updated voter roll.

During the verification, voters will need to confirm their existing details.

Changes such as address updates, corrections, replacement EPICs, PWD markings, and mobile number linkages can be requested via Form-8. Those who turn 18 by October 1, 2024, or by January 1, 2025, should fill out Form-6 to register as voters.

Prospective electors turning 18 between January 2, 2025, and October 1, 2025, will also need to complete Form-6, with their applications processed in the respective quarter.

To remove names of deceased voters, those who have permanently relocated, or individuals with multiple entries, Form-7 should be completed.

The CEO's office has requested cooperation from residents, particularly in gated communities and high-rise buildings, to facilitate BLO access and ensure accurate record updates. The office appealed to all Delhiites to engage fully in the verification campaign to enhance the accuracy of the electoral roll.

In the Lok Sabha elections held in May, Delhi had 15.2 million eligible voters across its seven constituencies, each comprising ten assembly segments.
