Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini

On Sunday, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini praised the people of Delhi for their decision to back Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, claiming that their vote in the recent Delhi assembly elections ensured the national capital’s shift towards a "Viksit Bharat" (developed India).

Saini emphasised that under the prime minister's leadership, Delhi would benefit from the same welfare schemes that have been successful nationwide, including Ayushman Bharat, a health insurance scheme for the poor, and better access to clean drinking water.

In a press conference at Haryana Bhawan, Saini stated that the electorate of Delhi had firmly rejected the "deceitful promises" of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal. He claimed that voters ousted Kejriwal's party in favor of a government that would implement the policies and promises made by the BJP.

The BJP’s landslide victory in the Delhi elections, where it won 48 out of the 70 assembly seats, marked the party's return to power after more than 26 years. In contrast, the AAP, which previously governed the state, won just 22 seats, and the Congress failed to secure any.

Saini took the opportunity to predict that the people of Punjab would soon follow Delhi’s example and remove the "AAP-da disaster" from power in their state. This, he claimed, would echo Delhi’s decision to turn away from a party that had failed to deliver on its promises.

Extending his gratitude to Delhi’s voters, Saini also congratulated party leaders, workers, and senior leadership for their roles in the victory. He particularly credited Prime Minister Modi, asserting that this win reflected the trust people had in Modi’s leadership.

In a sharp critique of Kejriwal’s leadership, Saini remarked that the people of Delhi had freed themselves from a leader who had misled them with false promises. He pointed out that Kejriwal had repeatedly made claims about cleaning the Yamuna River by 2025, yet had failed to follow through and instead blamed Haryana for the state of the river.

Saini also mocked Kejriwal’s promise to transform Delhi’s roads into those resembling Paris, claiming that his campaign in the capital revealed long traffic jams and damaged roads, highlighting the gap between the AAP's rhetoric and the ground reality.

Saini recalled that Kejriwal had also promised to uplift children from poor families by helping them become doctors and engineers, but instead, his focus had been on opening more liquor shops. Saini said the people of Delhi now had the opportunity for real progress under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership.

Describing Modi as a leader who always delivers on his promises, Saini confidently declared that Delhi would join the "Viksit Bharat" vision. As part of this vision, he outlined plans for the beautification and cleaning of the Yamuna Riverfront, making it an attractive destination for Delhiites and visitors.

In addition to this, metro services would be expanded, electric vehicles promoted, and other measures taken to improve the city’s infrastructure and environment.

Saini also fondly recalled his time campaigning in Delhi, where he had enjoyed eating jalebis with locals. He had assured them that the BJP would win and promised a grand celebration. True to his word, after the election results, Saini personally offered 'jalebis' to the people of Delhi as a token of appreciation.

The celebration at Haryana Bhawan was attended by senior BJP figures, including Haryana BJP President Mohan Lal Badoli, Madhya Pradesh Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya, Haryana Minister Krishan Bedi, Rajya Sabha MP Subhash Barala, and Saini’s media advisor Rajeev Jaitly.

Saini expressed heartfelt gratitude for the support the people of Delhi had shown the BJP and reiterated his commitment to fulfilling the promises made during the campaign.
