A multi-vehicle collision was reported on the Delhi–Sonipat road near Bahalgarh in Sonipat, Haryana, on Tuesday, as dense fog reduced visibility. Thick fog and poor visibility are suspected to have caused the accident, in which at least one to two people were injured, eyewitnesses said.

The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning, when visibility on the road stretch was extremely low.

An eyewitness explained that the crash happened in stages. According to the eyewitness, one car first hit another vehicle. One of the cars then drove away, while the other remained damaged on the road. A short while later, another car rammed into the stationary, damaged vehicle from behind. In total, three cars were involved in the collision, the eyewitness added.

Another eyewitness said that one of the vehicles had already left the scene, which may have led to the subsequent crash.

“One of the cars involved in the incident has already gone. Because of this, the cars collided. One to two people are wounded in this," the eyewitness said.
Officials have not yet shared details about the identities of the injured or the seriousness of their injuries.

The accident occurred amid widespread dense fog across Delhi and the National Capital Region, which disrupted both road and air traffic. Delhi woke up to thick fog and toxic air on Tuesday morning, with visibility dropping to near-zero levels in several areas, including the Dwarka Expressway, Dhaula Kuan, and near the Indira Gandhi International Airport.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for dense fog, warning people about very low visibility and dangerous travel conditions over the next few days.

The IMD said very light to moderate fog is likely to continue during morning hours, with dense fog expected at isolated locations, especially in the early mornings.

Air quality in the national capital remained a serious concern, with Delhi recording an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 384, which falls in the ‘very poor’ category.
Authorities advised residents to limit outdoor activities due to the combined impact of dense fog and high pollution levels.

Dense fog also caused major disruptions at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. At least 118 flights were cancelled, 16 flights were diverted, and around 130 flights were delayed on Tuesday morning.

Of the cancelled flights, 60 were arrivals and 58 were departures. Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) said flight operations were continuing but warned that flights not equipped with CAT III landing systems could be affected due to poor visibility.

Airlines such as IndiGo and Air India also issued advisories, saying they were closely monitoring weather conditions and adjusting operations to reduce inconvenience to passengers.
