Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim, who is serving a 20-year jail sentence for rape, has been granted 40 days of parole. He left Sunaria Jail in Rohtak early Tuesday morning around 6 am and reached his Sirsa Dera by 9 am, escorted by a convoy of seven SUVs under tight security.
This is the 14th time he has been released from jail on either parole or furlough since his conviction in 2017. It’s also the first time in eight years that he will celebrate his birthday, on August 15, at the Sirsa Dera. In past years, even during temporary release, he marked the day at the Barnawa Ashram in Uttar Pradesh.
Before his imprisonment, his birthday celebrations at Sirsa Dera were grand, spanning from August 7 to 15, often featuring performances by artists like Kanwar Grewal and the Nooran Sisters. This year, he turns 58, but celebrations are expected to be low-key. Officials haven’t allowed large gatherings, though sources say he might address his followers virtually.
Ram Rahim is also convicted in multiple murder cases along with the rape charges. Earlier, he was released in April 2025 on a 21-day furlough, during which he joined Dera Foundation Day events and met followers.
The current 40-day parole reportedly completes his allowed parole quota for this year. Security has been tightened around the dera, and authorities are keeping a close watch to avoid any law and order issues.
