Heavy rains which lashed Delhi two days back offered huge relief while bringing down soaring temperatures and humidity parameters too. The rains also resulted in improving pollution level considerably, yet not registering a desirable standard as national capital continues to be the seen as second most polluted city in the country.

Monsoon mayhem which struck Dehi-NCR two days back brought along many miseries on fronts of commuting and choked traffic, taking a toll of 9 lives.  However there was immediate respite from scorching heat and humid atmosphere. The major concern, nevertheless is far from being addressed despite weather improvement-the pollution woes.

Delhi on Friday recorded a maximum temperature of 33.2 degrees Celsius -- two degrees below normal for this time of the year -- after light rain. The national capital remained in the ‘green’ zone, which means that no weather warning was issued, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD).Delhi’s primary weather station at Safdarjung recorded 17.1 mm of rainfall till 8.30 am and an additional one mm between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm, the IMD data showed.

The weather department has forecast thunderstorms with rain for Saturday. However, the city will remain in the green zone.

Meanwhile, Delhi ranked as the second most polluted city in India in the first half of 2025, according to an analysis by independent research organisation Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA).The city recorded an average PM2.5 concentration of 87 micrograms per cubic meter, the report stated.

The 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 79 at 4 pm on Friday, placing it in the “satisfactory” category, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).According to the CPCB, an AQI between zero and 50 is considered “good”, 51 to 100 “satisfactory”, 101 to 200 “moderate”, 201 to 300 “poor”, 301 to 400 “very poor” and 401 to 500 “severe”.
