The family of Dr Muzammil Ganaie, who was apprehended after 360 kg of explosives were recovered from his rented room in Faridabad on Tuesday, has denied allegations linking him to terror outfits.
Dr Ganaie, who taught at Al-Falah University in Faridabad (about 40 km from Delhi), was among eight arrested in a joint Jammu & Kashmir–Haryana operation that uncovered a transnational terror module linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH), spanning Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.
Dr Muzammil’s brother, Azad Shakil, said the family had no idea of the claims being made by media organisations.
“We do not know of it. For the past five decades, there has been no case against anyone from our family,” Shakil said. Shakil said his family, who are farmers by occupation, had earlier been targeted by stone-throwers for being pro-India nationalists.
“We are completely Indians, and we have taken stones for India. You can verify it from anyone in the village,” he said.
Shakil described his brother as a “good person.” “You can ask around about him. There are allegations about his involvement in terror activities, but we have not been allowed to meet him since his arrest,” he added.
Shakil said his brother had to return home to attend their sister’s wedding, which was scheduled for Sunday but has now been cancelled. The accused doctor earlier visited Kashmir in June when their father undergone a surgical procedure, Shakil said.
