Controversies surrounding prasadam at the Tirumala temple continue, with recent allegations of insects being found in the prasad served to devotees.
This incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday during lunch when a devotee claimed to have discovered a millipede in his curd rice.
The devotee, who travelled from Warangal for darshan, expressed disappointment and called for strict action against the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) authorities for what he deemed negligence. He recounted that the staff’s response to his complaint was shockingly casual, stating, "It happens sometimes."
In response, the TTD dismissed the allegations as "baseless and false."
The trust emphasised that the prasad is freshly prepared daily for thousands of devotees and asserted that it would be unlikely for an insect to go unnoticed in the food. An official statement from the TTD reiterated that “hot Anna prasadam” is prepared for devotees, making the claim of a millipede's presence unconvincing.
The trust suggested that the negative comments regarding the prasadam might be an attempt to undermine the faith of devotees in Lord Venkateswara and to defame the institution.
This incident adds to ongoing controversies surrounding the temple, particularly related to the quality and ingredients of the prasadam, including recent claims about the presence of animal fat in the famous Tirupati laddus.
