DGP outlines new security plan for Kashmir, terror plot foiled

Nearly a week after Union Home Home Minister Amit Shah and J&K LG Manoj Sinha took stock of security situation in UT, Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat on Thursday outlined a new security strategy for Kashmir, calling for stronger coordination, enhanced vigilance, and smarter surveillance. A terror plot was coincidentally foiled by alert J&K Police who arrested  3 youth along with arms and ammunition in Srinagar.

Nearly a week after Union Home Home Minister Amit Shah and J&K LG Manoj Sinha took stock of security situation in UT, Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat on Thursday outlined a new security strategy for Kashmir, calling for stronger coordination, enhanced vigilance, and smarter surveillance. A terror plot was coincidentally foiled by alert J&K Police who arrested  3 youth along with arms and ammunition in Srinagar.  


Both Shah and Sinha had also stressed need to have coordination among various security agencies to get desired results on containing militancy in J&K. Chairing a high-level security review meeting at the Police Control Room (PCR) Kashmir to assess the prevailing security situation in the Valley and to strategise measures for further strengthening the security and intelligence grid, DGP Prabhat emphasised strengthening the city’s security grid through advanced surveillance, effective inter-agency coordination, and proactive field engagement.

 

He directed officers to establish dynamic and surprise checkpoints at strategic and vulnerable points to enhance area domination and deterrence.DGP Prabhat instructed officers to maintain seamless communication between adjoining districts for inter-district security coordination and real-time information sharing.Stressing the importance of operational agility, the DGP directed districts to enhance their Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) with improved mobility, training, and equipment.He also called for modernisation and upgradation of the communication network to ensure uninterrupted and secure connectivity across all levels.

 

The DGP reiterated the importance of professionalism, alertness, and people-friendly policing while maintaining the highest levels of operational readiness.He reviewed the existing arrangements and issued directions aimed at enhancing overall coordination, efficiency, and field readiness.The high level meeting was attended by Special DG Coordination Syed Javaid Mujtaba Gillani, IGP Kashmir Zone, IG CRPF (KOS), IG CRPF (Srinagar Sector), range DIGs of J&K, DIG SSB Srinagar, DIGs CRPF (South and North Srinagar), all district SSPs of Kashmir Zone, SSP PCR Kashmir, SP PC Srinagar, and other senior officers.

 

Earlier,  participating officers briefed the DGP on the current security scenario and operational preparedness in their respective jurisdictions.Meanwhile, a terror plot was foiled by arresting three individuals and recovering arms and ammunition from their possession, thereby averting a potential attack, Police said on Thursday.


A statement of J&K Police issued here said that in a major success against anti-national activities, it foiled a terror attempt when, during routine vehicle checking near Mamta Chowk, Konakhan, Dalgate, a Police team from Police Station Khanyar intercepted a black Royal Enfield motorcycle without a registration number.“On being signalled to stop, the rider and two pillion passengers attempted to flee but were tactfully apprehended by alert personnel on duty,” it said.

 

Police identified the arrested individuals as Shah Mutayib, son of Manzoor Ahmad Shah of Koolipora Khanyar; Kamran Hassan Shah, son of Ghulam Hassan Shah of Koolipora Khanyar and Muhammad Nadeem, son of Muhammad Yaseen Salmani of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, presently residing at Kawa Mohalla, Khanyar.It said that a search of their possession led to the recovery of one country-made pistol and nine live rounds.
