In a heartfelt push to bring Uttarakhand’s rich traditions and natural products to a larger audience, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday inaugurated a new outlet of the House of Himalayas at the Uttarakhand Niwas Complex in the national capital.
The initiative, he said, is a step toward giving global visibility to the handmade and organic goods produced in the mountain regions of the state. This outlet will be a strong platform to showcase our traditional heritage and local craftsmanship in an organised and accessible way, the Chief Minister noted.
The initiative aims to strengthen the rural economy while creating new opportunities for artisans, farmers, and women entrepreneurs. “Through this step, we’re not only supporting livelihoods but also keeping alive the cultural soul of Uttarakhand,” Dhami added.
To further amplify the impact, the state has installed retail carts and displays at over a dozen pilgrimage and tourist hotspots, including Naini Saini Airport, Pantnagar Airport, Dehradun Helipad, Kedarnath, Badrinath, Mussoorie, Pantnagar Airport, and Rishikesh. These eye-catching setups are already drawing interest from both pilgrims and tourists.
Plans are also underway to take these local treasures into prestigious spaces like Taj and Marriott hotels in Dehradun, Mussoorie, as well as urban hubs like Delhi Haat. The aim is to make the hill state’s high-quality, handmade goods easily available to domestic and global tourists alike.
Under strategic partnerships with luxury hospitality brands such as Taj, Hyatt, and Westin, tourists now have direct access to products like Buransh sharbat, wild honey, mountain grains, hand-spun woollens, and traditional spices, all sourced from local communities.
Interestingly, the idea for the House of Himalayas brand was first introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Global Investors Summit in 2023.
