Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday reached Haridwar to review preparations for Kumbh Mela-2027. After arriving at the Kumbh Mela Control Room (CCR), he laid the foundation stones for 34 major infrastructure projects cleared by the state government for the event.

These permanent development projects, estimated to cost Rs 234.55 crore, are aimed at ensuring that the Kumbh Mela is conducted smoothly and safely. The works are also expected to support the long-term development of Haridwar city.

Speaking to the media, Dhami said that preparations are moving ahead steadily. He said that immediately after the conclusion of the 2025 Chardham Yatra, preparations began for the 2026 yatra. Several meetings have already been held. He added that the government is regularly meeting stakeholders and taking suggestions from everyone involved in organising the yatra.

He further said that this time the yatra is starting a little earlier. The temple doors are set to open in April, when schools remain closed and footfall increases. Therefore, the government is making all arrangements to ensure that pilgrims have a positive and comfortable experience. He said that a review meeting was held for the 2027 Kumbh Mela and foundation stones were laid for projects worth around Rs 250 crore.

Dhami stressed that all work must be completed on time. He said arrangements for the Kumbh should be well planned and properly organised. He also directed all departments to work together in coordination.

Meanwhile, with the Kumbh Mela scheduled to be held in Haridwar next year, the Mela administration has stepped up preparations. Efforts are being made to ensure the convenience, safety and smooth movement of devotees coming from across the country.

As a large number of pilgrims are expected to travel by train during the Kumbh Mela, ground-level preparations have been intensified. Additional facilities and arrangements are being planned at Haridwar and nearby railway stations.

In this connection, Mela Officer Sonika carried out a detailed inspection of Haridwar Railway Station. She was accompanied by officials from the Mela administration and the Railways. The team reviewed the existing arrangements and assessed the additional facilities proposed by the Railways for the Kumbh Mela.
