Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday visited the District Hospital in Gopeshwar to meet workers hurt in the Chamoli tunnel accident. He checked on their health and reviewed the treatment arrangements at the hospital.
Dhami spoke to the injured workers and asked doctors about their condition. He instructed the medical teams to ensure proper treatment and said there should be no delay in providing any required care.
The hospital visit followed Dhami's inspection of the accident site at Mayapur in Pipalkoti. Water and debris entered an under-construction tunnel of THDC's Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydroelectric Project, trapping 22 workers inside.
The workers who were rescued were taken to the District Hospital in Gopeshwar. Doctors and health officials are monitoring them and providing the necessary treatment.
Dhami also asked officials to extend all possible help to the families affected by the incident. He directed them to ensure that all required arrangements remain in place at the site as the rescue operation continues.
Earlier, the Chief Minister reached Mayapur and reviewed the rescue efforts on the ground. He met officials and personnel from the agencies involved and took an update on the progress of the operation. Dhami also went inside the tunnel to understand the situation and spoke to rescue teams working there.
According to the district administration, 19 of the 22 workers trapped inside the tunnel had been rescued, while efforts were continuing to locate and evacuate the remaining three.
The TRT tunnel, part of THDC's Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydroelectric Project, is around three kilometres long. Officials said the ground had subsided over a stretch of about 1.50 kilometres, allowing water and debris to enter the tunnel and making the rescue operation difficult.
District Magistrate Gaurav Kumar briefed Dhami on the accident, the rescue efforts so far and the arrangements being made at the site.
During his inspection, Dhami told officials to give top priority to safely bringing out the three workers still trapped inside. He asked them to use all available resources and technical expertise and ensure close coordination between the NDRF, SDRF, ITBP, police and other teams.
Dhami said every possible step should be taken to rescue the remaining workers safely. Multiple agencies are continuing the operation, clearing debris, assessing the affected area and working to reach those still trapped inside.
