Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister confirmed that rescue and relief efforts were in full swing, with teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and other emergency units actively working in the landslide-hit Silai Band area to assist those affected.
In his social media handle, Dhami wrote, "In the tragic incident of a landslide in the Silai Band area of Barkot Tehsil, Uttarkashi district, it has been reported that some workers are missing. Meanwhile, nine workers who were working on an under-construction hotel site went missing after a cloudburst severely damaged the construction site at Silai Band on the Barkot-Yamunotri Marg in Uttarkashi district. Later, the bodies of the two missing labourers were found from the banks of the Yamuna River, near Tiladi Shaheed Smarak, roughly 18 km from the landslide-hit site, said Sub-Inspector Vikram Singh.
Uttarkashi District Magistrate Prashant Arya, said, "Due to a cloud burst in Silai Band on the Barkot-Yamunotri Marg of Uttarkashi district, a hotel under construction has suffered heavy damage."
"Eight-nine workers staying at this under-construction hotel site are missing," Arya stated. He added that the Yamunotri Marg had also been affected by the heavy rainfall and debris.
Continuous rainfall on Saturday caused severe disruptions across the hill state, including blockage of the National Highway near Nandprayag and Bhanerpani.
In a post on X, Chamoli Police Uttarakhand stated, "The Badrinath National Highway is blocked near Nandprayag and Bhanerpani. Work is underway to open the road."
