Arizona couple Todd Bank and his sister complete the adoption of a 15-month-old girl from Dhanbad, marking a second international adoption from the district.

A couple from Arizona, USA, has adopted a 15-month-old girl from Dhanbad, Jharkhand, marking the second instance of an orphaned child from the district being adopted by a foreign family.

In 2022, a Canadian couple adopted a baby boy from Dhanbad, highlighting the growing trend of international adoptions from the region.

Todd Bank, a trader, travelled to Dhanbad with his sister, alongside representatives from the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA), to complete the adoption process.

His wife, a professor at Arizona University, could not make the journey due to her pregnancy.

The baby girl, found abandoned along the Govindpur-Dhanbad highway in 2023, had been rescued and taken to Asarfi Hospital by a passerby. After receiving medical care, she was placed in the Special Adoption Home at Kolakushma.

Uttam Mukherjee, chairman of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), shared, "When no one came to claim the girl, CWC uploaded the information on the adoption portal."

This is just one of several child rescue efforts by CWC. In recent years, the CWC and authorised agencies have been actively rescuing and rehabilitating abandoned children found in railway stations and other areas across Dhanbad.

The committee’s efforts, along with CARA’s support, have facilitated numerous adoptions, ensuring a better future for many vulnerable children.

The handover of the baby girl to the Arizona couple was completed in the presence of CARA project officer Neeraj Dey, CWC chairman Mukherjee, and other key officials.
