Bharatiya Janata Party Punjab President Kewal Singh Dhillon has launched a sharp attack on the Bhagwant Mann-led Aam Aadmi Party administration, alleging that its claims of a power-surplus state have been completely exposed by ongoing electricity shortages and widespread farmer protests. Dhillon stated that demonstrations by farmers over prolonged and erratic power cuts, particularly during the crucial paddy transplantation season, have shattered the Chief Minister's repeated promises of providing eight hours of uninterrupted electricity to the agricultural sector. He argued that the gap between government advertisements and the reality on the ground has become starkly apparent.
The BJP leader noted that farmers are being forced to rely on expensive diesel generators due to the irregular electricity supply, which has significantly driven up their cultivation costs. He claimed that the sit-ins outside power grids across Punjab reflect a deepening crisis in the sector and a fundamental failure in the government's planning. Recalling earlier promises made by Mann to spare farmers from spending sleepless nights waiting for irrigation power, Dhillon alleged that the situation remains unchanged, with shortages persisting throughout the day and night.
As a result of these disruptions, standing paddy crops are reportedly under threat from a lack of water, while farmers preparing for fresh transplantation are facing severe difficulties. Dhillon questioned why farmers are being forced to block roads and gherao power stations rather than working in their fields if the government's arrangements were truly effective. He concluded by accusing the administration of being preoccupied with advertisements, social media optics, and manufactured narratives while neglecting the grim reality faced by the farming community.
