A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team arrested Punjab Police Ropar Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Harcharan Singh Bhullar from his Mohali office in connection with a “corruption” case on Thursday.
Acting on a complaint filed by a scrap dealer from Fatehgarh Sahib, CBI sleuths also conducted searches at Bhullar’s office, residence and another location. One more person was apprehended in the case.
It is learnt that the CBI team from Chandigarh took Bhullar to Panchkula and later brought him back. No one from the Punjab Police on deputation with the CBI accompanied the raiding team.
Bhullar had joined as the Ropar Range DIG on November 27 last year. Before this, he was posted as Patiala Range DIG. Known for maintaining a low profile, he was actively involved in the “Yudh Nasheyan Virudh” anti-drug campaign in the Ropar Range. Son of former Punjab DGP Mehal Singh Bhullar, he also headed the special investigation team which questioned Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia in connection with a drug smuggling case.
