In a quiet yet heartfelt ceremony that defied political grandeur, BJP leader and former MP Dilip Ghosh tied the knot with Rinku Majumdar on Friday evening at his Newtown residence near Kolkata. The wedding, conducted at dusk, was a private affair attended by close friends and family members.
Earlier in the day, Rinku visited a beauty salon in Newtown to prepare for the occasion. Later, adorned in traditional bridal finery, she arrived at Ghosh’s flat dressed in a stunning red Benarasi saree. A delicate Shola crown, a dainty tiara and a crimson ghomta draped over her head completed her quintessential Bengali bridal look. She was accompanied by a few bridesmaids, but notably absent was her son, Srinjoy.
Rinku, a BJP Mahila Morcha leader and a divorcee, has a 25-year-old son from her previous marriage. Currently residing abroad due to work commitments, Srinjoy could not be physically present at the ceremony but conveyed his heartfelt wishes.
Ghosh, known for his austere lifestyle and disinterest in elaborate social rituals, opted for a minimalist ceremony.
Dressed in a traditional white dhoti and Punjabi, he remained true to custom but did not visit the bride’s house, choosing instead to host the event at his own home. The understated celebration was in line with his personal preferences, focusing on simplicity rather than spectacle.
“Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has extended her best wishes and I am grateful for that. I also seek the blessings and good wishes of everyone,” said Dilip Ghosh after his marriage. “As a husband, a father, and a dedicated worker of the BJP, I will fulfil all my responsibilities with sincerity. Rinku and I have known each other for many years—we share a common ground as political workers, and together, we will continue to remain active in our political pursuits.”
Despite the significant personal milestone, Ghosh remains committed to his political duties. There will be no disruption to his regular schedule. On Saturday morning—his birthday—he plans to continue his daily routine with a brisk morning walk in Newtown. Although the bride will traditionally remain at home the day after the wedding, Ghosh is expected to participate in a political program in Dum Dum later in the day, followed by a visit to Kharagpur, East Midnapore.
Sources indicate that his morning walk companions may choose to mark his birthday in a low-key manner during their regular gathering.
