'Dilli Chalo' march suspended for indefinite period

The Dilli Chalo protest by the farmers has been suspended for an indefinite period.

Farmers have suspended the Dilli Chalo 'march' for an indefinite period. Farm leader Sarwan Singh Pandher said, "No Jatha will proceed towards Delhi on Tuesday."

The statement came on Monday after farmers suspended their march on Sunday afternoon. Seven farmers sustained injuries in tear gas shelling at the Shambhu border near Patiala as security personnel prevented another attempt by the protestors to enter Haryana from Punjab. 

Meanwhile, police officials on Monday said their meeting with the farmer unions is taking place to reach an amicable solution to the issue.

Police officials are also meeting the injured farmers.

According to reports, DIG, Patiala Range, Mandeep Singh Sidhu, is presiding over a team meeting that took place near Khanauri where farmer leader Jagjit Dallewal was on hunger strike to support them. DIG had requested the union members to ask Dallewal to take his medicine. 

According to sources, Dallewal’s health is not good following the hunger strike.
