Dog-bite cases in Rajasthan rose sharply in 2025, nearly doubling from the previous year, with Jaipur emerging as the worst-affected district and children forming a significant proportion of victims, according to data accessed through a Right to Information (RTI) application.
The state recorded more than 460 cases in 2024, which increased to over 900 in 2025, indicating a steep year-on-year rise. Jaipur accounted for the highest number of incidents in both years, with cases surging from 307 in 2024 to 633 in 2025.
“Notably, incidents involving children also saw a sharp rise. Jaipur reported 45 child victims in 2024, which increased to 65 in 2025, the highest among all districts,” RTI applicant Chandra Shekhar Gaur said.
The data also pointed to a worrying trend in other districts. Khairthal-Tijara recorded four child victims in 2024, rising to nine in 2025, while Kota saw a jump from nine child victims to 16 during the same period, making it one of the worst-affected districts for children after Jaipur.
In contrast, Bikaner reported six child cases in 2024 and two in 2025, while Pali recorded no child cases in 2024 but reported two in 2025.
Apart from Jaipur, districts reporting a high number of dog-bite cases in 2025 included Khairthal-Tijara with 55 cases, Pali with 46, Kota with 45, and Bhilwara with 33 cases.
The data indicated that a majority of the reported incidents occurred in urban areas, while rural regions recorded comparatively fewer cases. The rise in urban dog-bite incidents has raised concerns over the management of stray dog populations and public safety, particularly for children.
