Hemkund Sahib yatra

The revered Sikh pilgrimage site, Sri Hemkund Sahib, opened its doors to devotees on Sunday, echoing with the chants of “Jo Bole So Nihal, Sat Sri Akal.” The ceremonial opening was led by the Panj Pyare, marking the start of the annual yatra to the high-altitude shrine located at 15,000 feet in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand.

More than 4,000 pilgrims witnessed the sacred moment as the gates were opened following the recitation of the first Ardas of the year and the issuance of Guru Maharaj’s first edict. The shrine, adorned with Kuntal flowers, was blanketed in snow, adding to the visual and spiritual spectacle.

According to officials, over 75,000 devotees have registered online so far for the yatra, reflecting strong enthusiasm among the Sikh community.

In preparation for the reopening, Army personnel worked tirelessly for the past month to clear snow from a 3-kilometre stretch of the yatra route, referred to as the ‘faith path.’ The state administration has also put special arrangements in place to ensure safety, ease of access, and convenience for pilgrims.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Governor Gurmit Singh extended greetings to the devotees. In a message posted on social media, CM Dhami wrote, “Jo Bole So Nihal, Sat Sri Akal,” welcoming pilgrims from India and abroad to Devbhoomi Uttarakhand. He assured that all necessary facilities have been arranged to support the smooth conduct of the yatra.

Sri Hemkund Sahib remains snow-bound for most of the year and is accessible only for a few months. The annual reopening draws thousands of faithful who brave challenging conditions to pay homage at the sacred site.
