A day after the NDA’s big win in the Bihar assembly elections, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said “double-engine” governments were emerging across India because people were choosing leaders who deliver results. He said the public now supports only those who work for them.
Dhami was speaking at the launch of Venu Agrahari Dhingra’s book “Leading Ladies — The New Wave of Female Politicians in India” at the Dehradun Literature Festival.
He said that whether it was Bihar or any other state, only hardworking leaders and governments were being elected. Dhami added that this trend was visible everywhere.
"Haryana has a double-engine, Maharashtra has a double-engine for the third time, and Madhya Pradesh has been using it for many years," the chief minister stated. Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Delhi have a double-engine government. Gujarat has been using it for years. Odisha has used it, and Bihar has been under the NDA government for years, he added.
Dhami said India’s work culture has changed since Prime Minister Narendra Modi took charge. According to him, the needy are now receiving timely help, and work is moving ahead with transparency, honesty, and speed.
He said the Grand Alliance had mocked the Chhath festival and the development work in Bihar, and the people rejected “nepotism, individualism, corruption, jungle raj, and mafia raj” through their vote.
Dhami asked the children attending the event, held at a private school, to step forward as future leaders in politics and other fields. He said politics has taken on a new meaning in this era, and people with good intentions and a desire to work should come forward.
The chief minister also requested author Venu Agrahari Dhingra to write a book on the women of Uttarakhand. He said women have played a vital part in the state’s formation and progress.
Dhami added that the struggles and strength of Uttarakhand’s women, despite many challenges, should be shared widely. He said their stories deserve to be told.
