The Haryana government has appointed senior journalist Dr Ajay Sura as the State Information Commissioner (SIC). A formal notification announcing his appointment to the post was issued by the state government on Thursday.
Dr Sura’s name was approved by a state-level committee comprising Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, a senior Cabinet minister and Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda. The committee selected him from among candidates shortlisted by a screening committee in accordance with statutory provisions.
A native of Bugana village in Hisar district, Dr Sura has over two decades of experience in mainstream print journalism and has worked with several national newspapers. He completed his LL.B. from the Department of Laws, Panjab University, Chandigarh, in 2003. Alongside his professional career in journalism, he pursued higher studies and holds M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees in Journalism from different universities.
His grandfather, Dalip Singh, was a freedom fighter and was honoured with the Tamra Patra in recognition of his contribution to India’s freedom movement. Dr Sura is also associated with several professional bodies and serves on the boards of studies of reputed educational institutions.
