Noted poet and philosopher Dr Jernail Singh Anand was felicitated with the Soka Ikeda Memorial Mega Literary Award and the Mahakavi Bharathi Admirable Achievements Award at an international literary seminar and poetry conference held at Soka Ikeda College of Arts and Science for Women here.

The awards were presented by college chairman Dr Sethukumanan and Bharathi Foundation chairman Vanavil K. Ravi in recognition of Dr Anand’s contribution to literature and ethical philosophy. Author of over 200 books and Founder President of the International Academy of Ethics (IAE), Dr Anand delivered the keynote address at the seminar titled “Formatting Young Minds for a Grand New World,” organised jointly by the IAE and the college.

In his address, Dr Anand emphasised that knowledge cannot remain ethically neutral and proposed the introduction of an “Ethical Alphabet” promoting values such as compassion, ethics, kindness and forgiveness. He also suggested that postgraduate and doctoral degrees include an ethical oath committing scholars to use knowledge for the welfare of society. Students and faculty members present at the event collectively took the oath administered by him.

Renowned bilingual poet and scholar Dr Ramakrishna Perugu was also conferred the Soka Ikeda Award. The Mahakavi Bharathi Awards were presented to Dr Anand, Dr Sethukumanan, Dr Maja Herman Sekulic and Dr Ramakrishna Perugu. The IAE further honoured Dr Sethukumanan and Vanavil K. Ravi with fellowships, while Dr Perugu received the IAE Roll of Honour.

The hybrid seminar saw participation from poets and scholars across several states. Four books by eminent poets and two literary anthologies were released during the event.
