Telangana has a new Director General of Police (DGP). Dr Jitender, an IPS officer from the 1992 batch, who was serving as the Principal Secretary to Government in the Home Department has been posted as the new DGP of the Telangana State.
He will be holding the post with full additional charge (FAC) in the State. The incumbent Ravi Gupta has been posted as Special Chief Secretary in the Home Department. This is the first transfer of DGP after the Congress came into power in the State in December 2023.
Born in Punjab’s Ferozepur in September, 1965, Dr Jitender has completed his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from School of Management Studies, JNTU, Hyderabad.
His earlier stints included Superintendent of Police Mahabubnagar, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) of Vizag and Warangal Ranges. He was also the Additional Commissioner of Police— Traffic in Hyderabad and brought in several innovations including automated signals, intelligent traffic management system and cashless challan system, the first such in India.
He has also worked as the Additional DGP (Law & Order) of Telangana and was serving as the Principal Secretary to Government in the Home Department for the last one and half year.
In his previous role, Dr Jitender was looking after policy and administrative matters of various departments like Police, Fire Services, Prisons, Director of Prosecutions, Sainik Welfare, Police Housing Corporation, Special Protection Force, Printing & Stationary among others.
During his years of service, he has been awarded the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry, President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service, President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service and Internal Security Medal by the Government of India.
The Telangana Police department saw 16 other IPS officers transferred to new positions, including G. Sudheer Babu, who was serving as Inspector General of Police, Multi Zone-II.
He will be the new Commissioner of Police for Rachakonda, while Dr Tarun Joshi, the outgoing CP, will become Director of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB).
CV Anand, who was serving as the Director General ACB will be taking full additional charge as the Director General (Vigilance and Enforcement) while serving as EO Principal Secretary to Government, General Administration Department.
