The counter-intelligence wing of the Punjab Police busted a cross-border arms smuggling ring with the arrest of a drug smuggler and recovery of 10 sophisticated .30-bore pistols and magazines smuggled from Pakistan from his possession. The accused has been identified as Harjinder Singh of Tarn Taran.
DGP Gaurav Yadav said Harjinder, who had NDPS cases registered against him and was recently out on bail, was working with a Pakistan-based smuggler who used drones to drop consignments of weapons. The DGP said Harjinder was further distributing the arms to criminals and gangsters across Punjab to fuel criminal activities in the state.
The arrest was made on the basis of specific intelligence inputs about retrieval of weapon consignments from the international border with Pakistan falling near a village in Tarn Taran.
