Jammu and Kashmir police have arrested 14 individuals and registered 10 FIRs against them for their alleged involvement in the drug trade under the NDPS Act over the past three weeks, officials said.
According to a police statement, nine FIRs were registered at Police Station Qazigund and one at Police Station Devsar, leading to the arrest of 14 persons.
During the operations, they also recovered 415.61 grams of heroin, 1,348 grams of charas (including powder and charas-like substances), 1.5 kilograms of bhang patri, and cash amounting to Rs 1,37,990.
According to investigators, the arrested individuals are linked to a wider narcotics network operating in Kashmir.
The statement named the arrested individuals as Rasik Ahmad Padder S/o Mohd Ramzan Padder R/O Emooh Verinag at Furrah; Mohammad Idrees Ganie S/o Gull Mohd Ganie R/O Furrah at Khrewan Lassi Pora Crossing; Maqsood Ahmad Naikoo S/o Sanaullah Naikoo R/O Nassu Badragund at Nassu Badragund; Mohd Rafiq Mir S/o Mohd Amin Mir R/O Panzinara, Srinagar; and Bagh Hussain S/o Sheir Ali R/O Belli Chirrana, Jammu at Kurigam.
Rafaqat Ahmad Khan S/o Mohd Sadiq Khan R/O New Colony Kurigam at New Colony Kurigam; Sahil Farooq S/o Farooq Ahmad Wagay R/O Qazigund near Municipal office; Sikander Singh S/o Visa Kha R/O Sahirpora, Moga, Punjab; and Mohd Shafi Wani S/o Gull Mohd Wani R/O DH Pora at Upper Bazaar near Doru Crossing were found to be in possession of charas (cannabis).
Similarly, Yawar Ahmad Dar S/o Mohd Akbar Dar R/O Mandhole at Wanpora; Mohd Mantoo Sheikh S/o Chano Sheikh; and Sameena Khatoon w/o Mohd Mantoo Sheikh R/O Naryal Singa Border, Delhi at Nawa Qazigund, were found in possession of charas and heroin.
Bilal Ahmad Tenda, S/o BabooTenda, R/O Gujar Basti Dardgund at General Road Cheyan, was also apprehended while attempting to flee during naka checking and was found in possession of the banned narcotics.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kulgam, Anayat Ali Choudhary (IPS), said the police would continue taking strict action against the narco trade in the district while maintaining a zero-tolerance policy against those involved in the heinous trade.
