Two policemen were hurt in Nalagarh on Wednesday evening after a routine call for help turned into a violent fight with two heavily drunk youths from Khera village. The incident happened around 8.30 pm when the police received information about a quarrel near a liquor vend. A police team rushed to the spot and found two youth, identified as Deepak Thakur and Shyam Singh, creating chaos inside the shop.
As soon as the officials approached, the youths started shouting abuses without any reason. Deepak tried to threaten the police by claiming that his relative was a judicial officer. When the officers did not respond to his threats, he turned violent and hit home guard Pratap Chand with a glass bottle. Shyam joined him and picked up bricks and stones from outside the vend and threw them at the police team.
When an officer tried to hold Deepak, he smashed a broken liquor bottle on the policeman’s ear and stomach. Both men then attacked the officers with a wooden stick, tearing a uniform and injuring two policemen. During the chaos, Deepak also threw a brick at a police vehicle, breaking its windowpane. A local man, Arun Sharma, who tried to help, was also beaten by the drunk duo.
Head constable Rakesh received multiple injuries in the incident. Taking advantage of the confusion, the accused fled in their Scorpio. However, the police team caught them on the main road within minutes. Even after being brought to the Manpura police station, they remained aggressive. They broke the station gate and continued to abuse the officers. Baddi SP Vinod Dhiman said both accused have been detained and booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
