A groom from Dubai and his group of 150 guests were shocked when they arrived in Moga, Punjab, only to find that his bride was “missing” and the wedding venue didn’t exist.
Deepak Kumar, 24, had returned to Jalandhar from Dubai a month ago to marry Manpreet Kaur, a woman he had been talking to on Instagram for three years but had never met in person, according to the police.
After the incident, Deepak filed a complaint against the bride. Police said that Deepak and Manpreet had connected on Instagram three years ago but had never met face-to-face.

Deepak explained that he and his family travelled from Mandiali village in Jalandhar to Moga for the wedding, based on the details provided by Manpreet. Upon arrival, Manpreet’s family told them someone would guide them to the wedding venue. However, after waiting until 5 pm, no one arrived.
They asked locals about the "Rose Garden Palace" venue, but were told that no such place existed in Moga.
Deepak said he worked as a labourer in Dubai and had been in contact with Manpreet for three years through Instagram. He had seen her photos but had never met her.
The wedding was arranged after talking to her parents over the phone, and Deepak claimed he had also transferred Rs 50,000 to her earlier.
Deepak’s father, Prem Chand, said that they had hired taxis, arranged catering, and even hired a videographer for the wedding. He added that Manpreet was from Moga and had told them she worked in Ferozepur.
The wedding was planned after speaking with her parents over the phone, and guests had been invited.
Moga Assistant Sub-Inspector Harjinder Singh confirmed they received a complaint from Deepak Kumar. The complaint was filed after Deepak’s family could not reach the bride, as her phone was switched off. Investigations are ongoing.
