Meanwhile, the state has already been suffering massive losses due to continuous flash floods and heavy rainfall. On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted an aerial survey of the affected areas.
After reviewing the situation in Dehradun, the Prime Minister announced financial assistance of Rs 1,200 crore for relief and rehabilitation. He said a multi-dimensional approach was needed to help the people and the region recover.
The support package includes rebuilding homes under the PM Awas Yojana, restoring national highways, reconstructing schools, distributing mini kits for livestock, and providing relief through the PM National Relief Fund.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin, assistance will be provided under a “Special Project” submitted by the state government. This will ensure that eligible households whose homes were damaged by floods receive financial support.
The Centre has already sent Inter-Ministerial Central Teams to Uttarakhand to assess the scale of damage. Based on their detailed report, more aid will be considered, the Prime Minister’s Office said.
PM Modi expressed condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the calamity and assured that the Centre would continue to work closely with the state government to extend all possible assistance during this difficult time.
