The Election Commission of India (ECI) has revised the timing for counting votes in the Ludhiana West Assembly by-election. The process, initially scheduled to begin at 7:00 am on June 23, will now commence at 8:00 am, according to an official communication sent to the Deputy Commissioner.
The ECI's letter to the Deputy Commissioner stated, "In this regard, it is kindly informed that the counting of votes for 64-Ludhiana West Assembly Constituency will be held on 23.06.2025 and shall commence at 8:00 am instead of 7:00 am."
The Ludhiana West seat fell vacant following the death of AAP MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi. The bypoll has drawn significant attention, with BJP fielding Jiwan Gupta and AAP nominating Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora for the high-stakes contest.
The Ludhiana West by-election is part of a broader set of Assembly bypolls conducted across five constituencies in four states; 24-Kadi (SC) and 87-Visavadar in Gujarat, 35-Nilambur in Kerala, 64-Ludhiana West in Punjab and 80-Kaliganj in West Bengal.
According to the EC, polling took place on June 19 at 1,354 polling stations across the five Assembly segments.
The counting of votes in all five seats is scheduled for June 23, and the outcomes are expected to offer a glimpse into the evolving political dynamics ahead of state elections.
