The Election Commission of India has announced the schedule for a Rajya Sabha by-election in Andhra Pradesh. The seat became vacant after V Vijayasai Reddy resigned. He was a member of the Upper House from the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP).
According to the schedule, the official notification will be issued soon. Nominations can be filed until 29 April. The scrutiny of nominations will take place on 30 April. The last date for withdrawal is 2 May.
Polling will be held on 9 May, from morning until evening. Counting of votes will begin at 5 PM the same day, right after polling ends. The results will be declared shortly afterwards.
This by-election is crucial for the YSRCP as it looks to maintain its representation in the Rajya Sabha amid shifting political dynamics in Andhra Pradesh.
