The Election Commission of India (ECI) has removed 22 registered but unrecognised political parties from Tamil Nadu. And one from Puducherry also add to this list. This is a part of an action taken nationwide by the ECI owing to which 334 such parties have been delisted.
The decision means that these political parties will not be able to avail benefits and exemptions they previously enjoyed, which include provisions under the Representation of the People Act, 1951, certain clauses of the Income Tax Act, 1961, and the Election Symbols (Reservation and Allotment) Order, 1968.

The delisted parties from Tamil Nadu include a wide range of names— the All India Women Democratic Freedom Party, Ambedkar Peoples Movement, and the Anna MGR Jayalalitha Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, among others. From Puducherry, the Dravida Peravai has been removed.
The action follows notices issued by the ECI in June to 24 unrecognised parties in Tamil Nadu. The notices asked them to explain why they should not be delisted for failing to contest in any elections, a requirement for their continued registration.
