The Enforcement Directorate (ED) suspects that the recently uncovered Al-Qaeda-inspired terror module may have significant ties to major land scams in Jharkhand.
The agency has summoned Babloo Khan, a resident of Ranchi, for questioning on Monday.
Babloo Khan is the brother of Afsar Ali and reportedly the father-in-law of Talha Khan.
Notably, the ED has charge-sheeted both Afsar Ali and Talha Khan in connection with an army land scam, where a valuable 4.55-acre plot of land in Ranchi, under the possession of the Indian Army, was fraudulently sold.
In a related development, the Special Cell of Delhi Police arrested six suspects on Thursday, including Dr. Ishtiaq, a radiologist from Ranchi.
Raids were conducted at 17 locations across Jharkhand, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Odisha.
The investigation has revealed that Dr. Ishtiaq was a key operative of Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent (AQIS) in Jharkhand.
Sources confirmed that the ED has summoned Babloo Khan for questioning.
According to these sources, a clinic is registered in the name of Dr. Ishtiaq, and it is managed by Babloo Khan.
The agency is looking to determine the ownership of the clinic and the connection between Dr. Ishtiaq and Babloo.
“This is a crucial aspect that requires thorough investigation. The agency intends to ascertain whether the proceeds from the land scam were laundered through the hospital business. When you consider the four individuals, they appear to form a network that warrants close scrutiny,” said sources familiar with the investigation.
The ED is also exploring the possibility of taking over the FIR filed by the Delhi Police in the Al-Qaeda case.
