The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Thursday carried out raids at a residential society near Kharar in Mohali district of Punjab and recovered bags filled with cash which were allegedly thrown from a ninth-floor flat during the search operation, officials said.
According to ED sources familiar with the development, the raid was carried out at Flat No. 906 in Western Towers, Chajju Majra. During the search operation, two bags allegedly containing bundles of cash were thrown out from the building when the occupants noticed ED officials approaching the premises.
Sources later confirmed 12 further locations in Chandigarh and Mohali were raided, including premises of several builders and housing projects as well as that of Nitin Gohal, reportedly a close aide of an OSD to a senior government functionary.
Investigators carried out raids on entities and Gohal was allegedly involved in large-scale fraud in obtaining change in land use (CLU) licences from the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) and cheating the public to collect hundreds of crores.
The raids were conducted at premises linked to the Suntec City project, its promoter Ajay Sehgal, ABS Townships Pvt Ltd, Altus Builders, and Dhir Constructions.
The Enforcement Directorate also carried out searches at multiple locations in Chandigarh as part of the ongoing investigation. The raid was also carried out at a house in Sector 16, they said.
