Governor Haribhau Bagade on Saturday averred the education could have been Indianised the day Independence came and stated that making the nation "intellectually and physically stronger is the most pressing need of the hour". Addressing the Pratibha Samman Samaroh of Vidya Bharati here, the governor averred there were more Gurukuls in England than schools in India.
He averred 16 languages were being taught in Gurukuls and they would bring about "all-round development". Now, even three are being resisted, he added, citing some states resisting the three-language scheme of the National Education Policy. "Developing the intellectual ability of children should be the principal responsibility of educationists," Bagade was quoted as stating in a release.

He added that India provided the world with the number 'zero', and reinforced his argument that Shivkar Bapuji Talpade made the first airplane flight in India in 1895 instead of the Wright brothers receiving the credit for flying the first plane.
The governor further added that the day the country's flag was replaced after independence, the country's education policy should have also been replaced. "The education should have been Indianised," he added.
