As many as 20 people suffered injuries on Saturday when a bus they were travelling in turned upside down near Jhajjar Kotli area on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway here in the city outskirts.
A police official said the bus bearing registration number JKO2AT-2279 was on its way from Udhampur to Jammu when it met with an accident and turned turtle. The official added that the driver lost control of the vehicle due to overspeeding near Jhajjar Kotli.
Police team, along with local volunteers, immediately launched a rescue operation upon receiving information to evacuate the injured. The injured were then shifted to the hospital for further treatment, they said.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered and an investigation is going on.
Earlier on Friday, eight Amarnath pilgrims were injured in a road accident when their vehicle collided with a truck in Udhampur district.
The vehicle, bearing registration number UP81BN/3701, was ferrying pilgrims from the Pahalgam route when it was struck by a truck (PB65AV/9318), according to police officials.
Out of the eight passengers, three had sustained minor injuries and were given first aid at the spot, while the remaining five, who suffered serious injuries, were shifted to the Government Medical College (GMC) Associated Hospital in Udhampur for further treatment.
The police later said a case had been registered and an investigation was underway.
