Amid the festive celebrations of Durga Puja, a horrific incident unfolded in Kultali, in Kolkata’s adjoining South 24 Parganas on Wednesday night, when a 60-year-old woman was gang-raped inside her own home.
According to police, four miscreants barged into the woman’s house with an alleged intent to steal chickens. Armed with knives, sticks and even a firearm, they threatened the elderly woman, who was alone at home at the time. Three of them then reportedly raped her one after another, while the fourth kept watch outside.
The woman’s daughter and son-in-law, hearing her cries for help, rushed to the spot along with other locals. Residents managed to catch hold of two of the accused and beat them severely before handing them over to the Kultali police.

The victim stated that she was alone in the house since her husband was undergoing an eye surgery, and none of her grandchildren were present either. Taking advantage of her isolation, the miscreants launched the assault.
The arrested accused will be produced before the Baruipur Sub-Divisional Court on Thursday.

Police have launched a search operation to nab the remaining accused.
