Maharashtra Assembly speaker Rahul Narwekar's email address was compromised and an email regarding the same was sent from the speaker's email to the office of the state's governor. The information was shared by the police on Tuesday.
Earlier in the day, authorities registered a case at the Marine Drive police station against an unknown individual following the discovery of the hacking incident.
An email was subsequently detected to have been dispatched to the office of Maharashtra governor Ramesh Bais after the unauthorized access to the account.
The First Information Report was registered under Indian Penal Code sections 419 (cheating by personation), 170 (personating a public servant), and relevant sections of the Information Technology Act, the official said, adding that further probe was on.
