A Delhi court has granted interim bail to Baramulla Member of Parliament Sheikh Abdul Rashid, alias Engineer Rashid, to attend the budget session of Parliament from January 28 to April 2 whenever the House is in session.

Earlier last week, the court had issued notice to the terror-probing agency National Investigation Agency (NIA) over a plea filed by the jailed MP Engineer Rashid seeking interim bail to attend the upcoming Union Budget session likely to begin on January 28.

Special NIA judge Prashant Sharma issued notice to the NIA and sought a response from the agency on the plea of the Baramulla MP, who is in judicial custody in a terror-funding case dating from 2017.

The bail application was moved through advocate VikhyatOberoi. However, it was advocate Nishita Gupta who appeared on behalf of Engineer Rashid.

This is not the first time that the court has granted interim bail to the Baramulla MP. He has been granted several such orders previously, first during his swearing-in ceremony and later while attending multiple sessions in Parliament to represent his constituency.

Rashid surprisingly defeated the current Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, in a one-sided contest in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Although his appearance in Parliament has been for short periods since he became an MP in 2024, he has tried to represent his constituency whenever given the chance by the judiciary.

Meanwhile, in a post on X, Union Minister KirenRijiju wrote, “The Budget Session of Parliament will start on 28 January, while the budget will be presented on February 1.”

The post further reads, “The first phase concludes on February 13, 2026, with Parliament reassembling on 9 March 2026.”
