The Uttar Pradesh government has taken stringent action by suspending six officials from the Public Works Department (PWD) and the Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam for their negligence in the construction of the 14-km Ram Path and sewer lines underneath, which suffered damage following recent rains on June 23 and June 25.
Several lanes and streets adjacent to Ram Path faced severe waterlogging, with water even entering nearby houses.
Special Secretary Vinod Kumar issued suspension orders on Friday for PWD executive engineer Dhruv Agrawal, assistant engineer Anuj Deshwal, and junior engineer Prabhat Kumar Pandey.
Meanwhile, PWD Chief Engineer (Development) VK Srivastav oversaw the suspension of these officials.
Similarly, Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam Managing Director Rakesh Kumar Mishra suspended executive engineer Anand Kumar Dubey, assistant engineer Rajendra Kumar Yadav, and junior engineer Mohammad Shahid, all posted in Ayodhya.
The state government also issued a notice to Ahmedabad-based contractor firm Bhuvan Infracom Private Limited, holding them accountable in the matter.
An office order from the Public Works Department highlighted the urgency of the situation, citing damage to the Ram Path soon after its construction, which reflects poorly on the government's priorities and reputation.
Executive engineer Dhruv Agrawal, identified with Nirman Khand-3, faces suspension under Rule 7 of the Uttar Pradesh Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules 1999.
He will remain attached to the office of the chief engineer in Ayodhya during this period.
Principal Secretary of PWD, Ajay Chauhan, confirmed ongoing investigations into the incident, which gained national attention after images of the damaged Ram Path circulated widely on June 25
