The Eastern Nagaland People's Organisation (ENPO) has announced a temporary suspension of the public emergency in the region, following a decision made during its Central Executive Council (CEC) meeting at Tuensang headquarters.

In a notification, the ENPO described the move as a significant step toward promoting mutual understanding and seeking a peaceful resolution regarding the creation of the Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT) by the Centre.

However, the organisation pointed out that this suspension remains "subject to review under compelling circumstances."

Addressing concerns over nominees in urban local bodies (ULBs), the ENPO clarified that the matter is currently under discussion due to the absence of participation in recent elections.

According to the organisation, the decision stems from the Chenmoho resolution passed on February 23, which mandated abstention from electoral processes until the FNT issue is resolved.

Notably, the Eastern Nagaland region did not partake in the civic polls held on June 26, adhering to the ENPO's call for abstention based on the Chenmoho resolution.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio recently hinted at potential "limited grants" for urban development in the districts following their election boycott.

However, he acknowledged that these grants may not fully meet the districts' expectations.

The ENPO, representing eight tribes including Chang, Khiamniungan, Konyak, Phom, Sangtam, Tikhir, Yimchunger, and Sumi, has persistently protested the delay in fulfilling promises made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the creation of the FNT on December 7, 2023.
