Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha.

Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor Manoj Sinha on Monday said complete dismantlement of terrorism from the soil of the Union Territory is the top priority of his administration.

Reviewing the passing-out parade of the 49 deputy superintendents of police and 1,112 sub-inspector probationers at the Sher-e-Kashmir Police Academy at Udhampur, he said police personnel must protect society in every possible way to ensure peace, development and stability.

“Complete eradication of terrorism from the soil of Jammu and Kashmir is our top priority. Our mighty warriors of the J-K Police must adopt a multi-pronged approach and harness the power of intelligence, community engagement, technology, and inter-agency collaboration,” he said, addressing the function.
Sinha said he is proud of the valiant personnel and officers of the Jammu and Kashmir police.

“The entire nation looks at our police force with admiration and respect for professional competence, for successful handling of security challenges on multiple fronts and for ruthlessly combating terrorism,” he said.

The Lt Governor said India’s ancient values focus on truth, justice, morality, law and good governance, and these need to be protected and nurtured in society by the police.

In Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), seven local youths joined terrorist organisations in 2024, marking a 96 per cent decline compared to 2019, when 132 youths were recruited, reports said on January 1, 2025.

Currently, only nine local active terrorists remain in J&K, the lowest number in several decades. Security forces (SFs) killed 68 terrorists in 2024, including 42 foreigners.

Among those killed were four top commanders of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), and Hizbul Mujahideen (HM).
Notably, only 61 terrorist incidents were reported in J&K in 2024, a 47 per cent reduction from previous years.

The number of terrorists killed dropped from 157 in 2019 to 68 in 2024. Civilian and security personnel casualties have also decreased significantly in the past few years, according to data from the South Asian Terrorism Portal (SATP).
